Cork Open Coffee in the Blackrock Castle Observatory

Thanks to a connection from Damien Mulley , This weeks Cork Open Coffee is taking place on Friday the 28th in the Blackrock Castle Observatory in Blackrock in Cork from 10am to 12pm.

For anyone not familiar with the area, here is a link to the Blackrock castle on Google Maps http://short.ie/

. There is parking around the corner from the castle gates.

Clair McSweeney, Facilities Manager of the Blackrock Castle Observatory has kindly invited us to gather in the The Castle Bar and Trattoria, which is on the right as you enter the castle gates.

Clair will also give a tour of the castle at noon for anyone interested and would also like to highlight some of the great upcoming events in the castle including:

  • Tweet in to Blade Runner (Movies by Moonlight Film Club) Saturday the 29th
  • Space Camp 2010 (Summer Camp July and August)
  • The Castle Bar and Trattoria Summer Bar-B-Qs

Also taking place this coming Friday is Cork Open Coffee E28093 After Dark. This is an evening version of the Open Coffee for those who cant make it in the mornings.

Slides from David Reilly’s talk at Open Coffee

This morning David Reilly from Reilly & Co Solicitors spoke to Corks Open Coffee about Commercial Law.

It was an excellent presentation, David covered a lot of very relevant topics focused on those in commercial software development in a short time.

Davids presentation was called The Creation, Protection and Exploitation of Software – A Practical and Non-Harming Legal Review and covered the following areas:

- Legal background to ownership of software – VCs and The Exit Strategy
- Protection and Infringement of software
- Exploitation of software – how to get it right from the very start

A practical and commercial legal review aimed at software developers and those dealing in IT contracts.

Davids talk was also available online thanks to Shared Visions. Roland Steinmetz set up the room with a camera and speakers allowing the online viewers to participate from their offices, one user joined us from Munich!

This weeks Cork Open Coffee is on Friday July 24th in the Rubicon building next to CIT from 10am-12pm.

The Creation, Protection and Exploitation of Software

David Reilly from Reilly & Co. Solicitors will be presenting a talk on The Creation, Protection and Exploitation of Software – A Practical and Non-Harming Legal Review.

Topics will include:

- Legal background to ownership of software – VCs and The Exit Strategy

– Protection and Infringement of software

– Exploitation of software – how to get it right from the very start

This will be a practical and commercial legal review aimed at software developers and those dealing in IT contracts.

Virtual Open Coffee with Shard Visions

Roland Steinmetz from Shard Visions has arranged for a Virtual Open Coffee session this Friday to allow viewers to join in and view Davids talk online. Users can simply watch or interact using their own audio/video setup.

To join in, simply visit http://short.ie/vocc in your browser from 9.30am onwards on Friday.

Attendees will have to accept a download, its currently Win only and the download is 13MB.   

Plug in a headset and a webcam before entering. The room is open for testing and login in at any time. Its recommended to login and setup before Friday.

Roland will be in from 9:30am on Friday and can check you audio and video remotely.
